“Possessing an idea of Hindi interface by analyzing a common need of communicating overtly in national language on web. An Ex-IITian of IIT Mumbai Alumnus AMITESH MISHRA (resident of Kanpur) entrenched a long-awaited platform with his vigorous teammates in Jan. 2015 which set the record straight of more than 5000 users in a month, which is squarely different from other social networking sites. For the very first time in INDIA -in one of your own medium- to communicate indeed to express yourself- especially for the people who live by HINDI –made by young wackiest gang of engineering scholars - Shabdanagri.in ”
With the paramount passion and with a desire to create an innovative change in the era of social networking, a frenzied group of friends conceived an idea even faster than Mark Zuckerberg (founder & CEO of Facebook) as it didn’t took an hour to design Shabdanagri. Working 48 hours at stretch in a row, the young impassioned engineering scholars laid all their efforts to reach to their dream of connecting 65 crore people together on a Hindi interface. Amitesh Mishra who certainly gave up all his fructuous job offers of international-based I.T giants in a bid to put his dream into reality, served a new dimension to the world of social networking. “Who says now, that Hindi is being dodged on web with the hindsight of #tags trend on Facebook and twitter- Shabdanagri.in serves a platform which is certainly as easy as cakewalk for the users to proceed on. You type it in English and in a press of ‘spacebar’, you’ll get the translated word into HINDI”, said NitinTripathi (Digital Marketing and Prod. head of Shabdanagri).
By bootstrapping a simple idea into the thumping Indian market, though without any B-school certification but with all their I.T skills Shabdanagri team have substantially proved that before any resource an entrepreneur has to have a revolutionary IDEA to capture interest of masses. Apparently, AMITESH was on a brink to make his life-choice when he end-up working in a Canada-based I.T giant ‘Giant Tigers’, as the story ahead was not of building his career this time but a story where he would lead his life in the days to come. For a middle-class family in India, seeking a good job in a good company remains the only objective. But notably, we all have to concede a fact that there are FEW who keep experiment their distinct ideas at every turn of life and eventually a Right Idea, at Right Time makes its beeline into dynamic markets. Likewise, Shabdanagri.in has embarked on a journey with a new face on one of the emerging sector- SOCIAL MEDIA. In an interview with Shabdanagri team, AMITESH MISHRA (CEO and a social entrepreneur of Trident Analytical Solutions) shed light on his entrepreneurial career and also share details about the journey of “Shabdangri.in” :
Q.1 What stroked your mind in nearly 2011 when you left your job in such a renowned Canada-based I.T giant and came back to your hometown (Kanpur) to initiate Shabdanagri or perhaps to step-up for an idea which you probably once thought during your college time?
Ans. (Smiles, then humbly started) Yes as you put it rightly, me and my few friends once thought of programming a site while I was pursuing M.Tech in IIT-Bombay which strictly should be a Hindi interface. We always wanted to begin something new in the web world also which hasn’t been analyzed yet but which have a kind of exigency in today’s scenario. So, after an intense research by joining SIIC (SIDBI Innovation and Incubation Centre) in 2011, we took an aim of creating a Hindi social networking interface and launched Shabdanagri.
Q.2 What triggered you to programme a social networking site in HINDI shrugging-off English aside? Despite the fact that today’s youth are more indulged in the #tag trend of English…
Ans. Well, for that matter firstly, I would say Hindi is our national language and it shouldn’t be neglected. Secondly, what we primarily observed ispresentlyif people want to ask in hindi “how are you?” they probably choose this medium to write- “kaise ho?”.of course for the reason being English keyboard, so we thought why not completely in Hindi (hindi typing of kaise ho). You type it in your own way and after pressingonce a space bar you will get it translated into Hindi.
Q.3 How you people decided the site’s name? “Shabdanagri” is very much akin to word “devanagri”. Is that how you kept its name?
Ans. Yes, you can say that. At the time of launch we all were thinking that it’s a Hindisocial networking site so thereby, the name should also be in Hindi and that too different. Then one of our team-mate ‘Rajat’ a fresher suggested Shabdanagri. And it’s certainly simple and quite easy to learn and speak. So, this is how we got the name to our website.
Q.4 Who supported you in making your small idea to nowsoon a would-be big bang national product in market? Had you faced any sort of obstructions in the avenue of reaching to the people’s expectations?
Ans. Of course, Shabdanagri is not just my initiative as I told you earlier too. We have our team of around 10 team members who really buckle down and put all their efforts for the organization’s work. Besides, SIIC (SIDBI Innovation and Incubation Centre) of IIT-Kanpur has supported Trident Analytical Solutions Pvt. Ltd in financial terms which runShabdanagri. More so, IIT-Mumbai has also supported us initially.
Well, obstructions are pretty apparent in an avenue when you’re leading your dream product but for that matter I would say my team have been very supportive in each and every situation they are my strength therefore I always be ready to face any sort of problem if it may come.
Q.5 How Shabdanagri is different from other social networking site? What does it offer to a user? Can you brief its special features?
Ans. Shabdanagri has got peculiar features which will fascinate young factions of your age more even. It offers blogging, share and search, making website and other multiple options but all strictly in Hindi. More so, it’s very easy to work on it, there is no sought of complex procedure or language which people may face in other sites because of English. It in a way eases your communication.
Moreover, one doesn’t need to learn Hindi typing to write on it, you type your Hindi word in English and it would translate after a press of space bar into Hindi (with the help of its transliteration feature).
Q.6 How do you see your project from investment prospective? I mean don’t you agree it very much befits in “Make in India” project of PM Narendra Modi, as it’s a first-Hindi social networking site.
Ans. Yes, surely why not. Shabdanagri have a distinct feel of MAKE in INDIA, which can attract anyone, be it foreigners, NRIs, civilians too. For us as I.T professionals indeed being Indians it’s more like “MAKE FOR INDIA”. We, firmly believes that Shabdanagri will do well from investments prospective as it has Hindi as its quintessential feature.
Q.7 Does Shabdanagri has any of its advertisement so far on web, or on T.V or radio ?
Ans. Yes, we launched our first advertisement on YouTube which is basically presenting a small and an easy process how you can connect with site. We just have advertised on web till now. Would do further shortly.
Q.8 We have heard that your team is running one more site which is a social media management site known as “SOCIOTA”. Would you brief what is it all about?
Ans. It’s a social media management site by which you can deal your campaign in a more better and in a more dynamic way. Sociota is a product which facilitates that and it’s more useful for advertisers, campaigners etc.. In 2012, we launched Sociota first thereafter Shabdanagri.
Q.9 Is there any advice or a humble suggestion that you would like to give young engineering aspirants and young entrepreneurs?
Ans. I would just say always step-up and try if you have a small idea don’t lose a hope before trying it for once. You never know that someday your SMALL IDEA make billions and trillions out of it. So, don’t hesitate and always give a try. Thanks.
