You do
remember the time when your dream was to pilot a combat aircraft and later you
realised it was not that easy to become a fighter pilot. There is one Swedish
guy who dreamt of building the fastest car in the world at the tender age of
five. He realised his dream in 2005 when his creation was the fastest road legal car
in the world.
Koenigsegg's first road legal car- CC8S
Christian
Von Koenigsegg founded “Koenigsegg” at
the age of 22 in 1994. Along with his friends he kept on working to design the
fastest car in the world in Sweden. CC8S was the first production car to come
out of its stable in 2002. This car had a theoretical top speed of 390 kph.
Only 6 of these were ever built and all of them housed a 4.7 Litre Ford engine
which produced 646 bhp and 750 Nm of torque. Young Koenigsegg had announced his arrival and
had done enough for Italian manufacturers like Ferrari and Lamborghini to take
notice.
CCR was world's fastest car once
In 2003,
its production facility caught fire and Koenigsegg moved his company to two hangars
which previously housed fighter jets. Fire had burned his factory but could do
nothing to hamper his dream. The company had less than 50 employees at that time and all
were dedicated to build a car that could see a Mclaren F1(fastest car then) in
its rear view mirror. CCR, broke
Guinness record in February 2005 and was officially the fastest car in the
world till September. Little Swedish boy had realised his dream at
the age of 32. Bugatti Veyron broke
CCR’s record by achieving 408 kph in September 2005.
Agera R- Another gem
As they
say “he never looked back after that”. Koenigsegg
launched CCX in 2006. This car could
do 100 kph from standstill in 3.2 seconds. It was reviewed by popular BBC show “Topgear” and even set the fastest lap
at Topgear’s own racing track. Before Koenigsegg, the world only knew one
Swedish manufacturer, Volvo but soon
the supercar manufacturer was famous around the world.
Later,
Koenigsegg made many limited edition versions of CCX and finally launched a new
car in 2010. Agera was fitted with a
5.0-litre twin turbo V8 engine which produced a staggering 940 bhp and 1,100 Nm
of torque. 0-100 kph came in 2.8 seconds and its top speed was in excess of 420
kph. Its special version called Agera R set
a world record time of 14.53 seconds for 0-300 kph in September 2011.
Regera- "To Reign"
“Regera” is their latest monster and it
is more evil than its previous cars. Still under development, the car is
expected to produce around 1800 bhp from a 5.0-litre V8 engine. Christian Von
Koenigsegg is looking at hybrid technology now. He is evolving with the times
and Regera is the result. It uses a complex system of batteries which help the
engine to boost the power. Only 80 of them will be made and all will be
handcrafted. Each of them will cost more than a million British pounds.
Koenigsegg wants to dominate the supercar world and that’s why the name Regera-
“to reign”.
